Introduction to the Oregon EITC

Step-by-Step Instructions for Estimating Your Oregon EITC in PolicyEngine
Conclusion
The earned income tax credit (EITC) is a federal tax credit for low-income filers with earned income. The credit is refundable, meaning that the taxpayer can receive money back in the form of a refund if their tax liability is reduced below zero.
The Oregon EITC has two elements. For filers with children under three years old, the state provides 12% of the federal EITC. For filers without young children, Oregon matches 9% of the federal EITC. PolicyEngine has now modeled the Oregon EITC match, along with other credits and subtractions. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the process of estimating your EITC match in Oregon using PolicyEngine.
Consider a single parent with $30,000 employment income and two children, aged two and four, respectively. By following the steps outlined below, you can estimate the amount of Oregon EITC you are eligible for in 2022.
Select “Compute my household income” on the left, then “Enter my household.”
Enter your marital status as “Single,” followed by two dependents.
In the dropdown, select “Oregon” as your state.
Enter your employment income ($30,000 in this example).
Next, enter your age, and the ages of the children (in this example, age two and four).
With your net income displayed at the top, click the “Your refundable tax credits,” then “Your Oregon refundable tax credits.” The dropdown will display your OR EITC.
In this example, the estimated Oregon EITC is $579. That is, a single parent with $30,000 employment income and children aged two and four will receive $579 from the Oregon EITC in 2022.
